    1. Very cute romanceup until James' true identity was revealed. Then our funny & charming heroine turned into an annoying irrational priss. It was bad enough to make me demote this from 3 to 2 stars (if I could, I'd do 1.5). Elizabeth is desperate enough to marry for money, but suddenly too good to accept money from James. Even if it meant comfort for her siblings and the much needed education for her brother. And even to refuse marriage (or any common sense) from the Marquis who kept trying to [...]

    2. Historical romance - 3.5 stars!Sweet and fun!"Are you paying attention or just trying to make me look like an idiot?""Oh, I'm definately paying attention. If you look like an idiot it has nothing to do with me.""He looks like a man." "How descriptive," Susan said in a droll tone. "Remind me never to advise you to seek work as a novelist."

    3. (Edited: spoiler deleted scene - copied from JQ's website - at the end of this review. Another lovely epilogue)I have no doubt that Julia Quinn is the queen of historical romance to me. This book gave me a great time (I was ill when I read this). It had quite a simple and common story with predictable plot and yet I ended up loving it. Tons of laughter guaranteed!“I offered to burn the book, if you recall. I told you it was utter nonsense." He glared at her, and when that didn't cause her to q [...]

    5. Cute. I liked this way more than the first.I love Lady Danbury and her adorable, moody cat, Malcolm. The couple was cute too, but they (mainly the girl) got rather annoying in the last 15-20%. She was far too prideful, and he just made the mistake of having bad timing. Agh - not a fan of the misunderstanding trope.I liked that Elizabeth worked so hard to take care of her 3 younger siblings on her own. It was touching. On the other hand, James was sweet and pretty straightforward considering. Then [...]

    6. i feel horrid to say that i found this book to be a HUGE dissapointment and far below my expectations if one could imagine :/i loved the idea of the plot, but for some reason i felt almost the 1st half the book just drag, while the second half speed by with just fighting, screaming and dissapointmentsFor the first time (in my long reading life ! ) I found myself unable to even LIKE ms.quinn's characters while struggling to finish the bookA sad day indeed :(

    7. Just when me and my friends were complaining about the plateau plots of HR's lately, I come across an unread Julia Quinn and then, BAM, I take it back. I take it all back! There is hope as long as we have such books in our lives.I enjoyed the first half of the Bridgertons series, I loved loved loved all the characters and how their stories were brilliantly written. I did not however enjoy the last few, as well as the SS Quartet so instead of tainting my thoughts on Ms. Quinn's writing I stopped [...]

    8. "How To" isn't going to broaden any horizons or make you think outside of the box. What it will do is help pass a rainy day or make you forget how hot you really are as you're laying by the pool What a splendid and light hearted story this was, and if cheese was indeed a liquid it would absolutely drip from this bookButI just love how this oh so famous author can still make me laugh out loud while I reread the page two and three times just to laugh again. She has perfected one of my all time fav [...]

    9. After the lack luster hero in Julia Quinn's Ten Things I Love About You and the bubble head heroine in JQ's To Catch an Heiress, it was a refreshing change to read a JQ book where I actually really liked both the hero and the heroine. Not a bad place to start.Marquis James Siddel is Lady Danbury's nephew(yes the beloved Lady Danbury of the Brodgerton series). Lady Danbury has been blackmailed and calls her nephew to flush out the criminal. He discuises himself as an estate manager in order to he [...]

    10. This book started out with little promise for me, and it was largely because of the heroine. I sympathized with Elizabeth's position as the sole provider for herself and her three younger siblings, but I did not sympathize with her overreaction to pretty much everything that happened to her. I understand being embarrassed to be carrying around a horrid book about how to marry a marquis, but I had trouble understanding exactly why Elizabeth had blown the situation to the proportions that she did. [...]

    11. Adorable, as always! And, even better, there is plenty of evil-cat humor - my favorite! She looked down. Malcolm, the demon cat was sitting at her feet, staring at her as if she were a kitchen rat."What do you want?"The cat shrugged. Elizabeth hadn't known that a cat could shrug.Uppity cats!bad kitty! So, this book is about James, the Marquis from the last book, bff of Devin. He is an awesome love interest! He comes to help his aunt because she is being blackmailed, and in so doing, he meets his a [...]

    12. Overall rating: 4.5 "How to Marry a Marquis" stars!!!Triggers:Cheating: (view spoiler)[ No(hide spoiler)]Love triangle: (view spoiler)[ No(hide spoiler)]Sex with om/ow: (view spoiler)[ No(hide spoiler)]Intimate pasts: (view spoiler)[ Our hero James: Before the start of the book, it is alluded to that he was casual with his sexual affairs. 13. Marquis James Sidwell yg adl keponakan Lady Danbury dipanggil utk menyelidiki pemerasan thd bibi nya dg menyamar sbg petugas properti lady Danb [...]

    14. Another fun and humorous book by Julia Quinn! Once again, I loved all the characters. I seriously cannot find fault in the hero or heroine--I thought they were both lovely, charming, and witty. I also adored the siblings of the Hotchkiss clan--their interactions were so cute. I just find that JQ puts a smile on my face and makes my worries go away for awhile. I absolutely love her books and I'm so happy that I loved this one as much as I do the Bridgerton series. And I was so HAPPY that Lady Dan [...]

    16. Maybe it's because the series was consisted only by two books, but this time I didn't fall into that trap of liking the hero of the current book I read as the series progresses. This time, I realize, I loved the both men. The first book hero, Blake Ravenscroft, was the perfect brooding man, the great grouchy husband, whereas this book's hero, James Sidwell, was the perfect, well, opposite. He was charming and playful and quite the rake, he was like his old self from the previous book. This is on [...]

    17. This is the cutest book ever written! I'm not sure what I love more. Was it the humor (Oh. My. God. My stomach still aches) or maybe it was the H/Hr. It might have been the supporting characters or it could have been the writing. Actually, it was probably all of these things. OVERVIEW:We have our heroine, Elisabeth Hotchkiss, who is raising four younger siblings with dwindling funds. After much calculating it becomes clear to Elisabeth that she doesn't have much of a choice but to marry. Ironica [...]

    18. Was totally prepared to give this an unexciting 'meh' 3 stars but the silly melodramatic drama and dunderhead of a heroine made it hard to even do that. Elizabeth Hotchkiss is the biggest drama queen imaginable who loved to blow the smallest things waaaaay out of proportion. This girl should have taken a job in theater cause everything is either mortifying, humiliating or absolutely horrifying to her. She's also a total ditzy klutz who can't even stand still without causing bodily harm, tripping [...]

    19. January 19-21, 2011Elizabeth and James are SO CUTE! I think I said most of what I wanted to say below, but Lady Danbury seriously rocks! :) I love reading books with her in them!Summer 2007I REALLY liked this book. The premise: Elizabeth, whose parents have died, is responsible for taking care of her 3 youngers siblings (her 8-year-old brother is a baronet, albeit a poor one). She's earning "minimum wage" as Lady Danbury's country companion, but it's still VERY difficult to feed and clothe 4 peo [...]

    20. I loved, loved, loved this regency romance by one of my favorite authors! Young impoverished gentlewoman must marry for money to support her three younger siblings. Working as a paid companion, she finds a how-to book titled "How to Marry a Marquis" in the library of the lady she works for. Little does she know the man she thinks is her employer's estate manager is really a marquis - and he's willing to tutor her! A great screwball comedy romance as only Julia Quinn can do! Loved it! 4.5/5ktleye [...]

    21. Have you read this book? No? Go read it and come back and read this review after. I think I'm going to have to redo my all time favorite book list and put this in it. I laughed and cried and was swept away in their romance. It was perfect.

    22. I enjoyed this book so much! But why I didn't give this more than 3 stars? Well, mostly because I was expecting a lot of drama when the moment of truth comes up, yet I didn't really feel it. But overall reading this book reminds me a lot of the nostalgia that I always felt when i read Julia Quinn's books. It got me addicted all over again! The Her is not as rake-ish as I thpought he would be. He's an overall kind gentleman. He also treated the heroine quite tenderly and caring, despite the fact [...]

    23. 4.5 starsThis was the first book I read by this author. It was long ago – the book was published in 1999 – but it was a marvelous introduction. Ever since this book, I have been buying Julia Quinn’s regency romances as soon as they came out. I enjoyed most of them but I approached the re-reading of this novel with trepidation. What if it didn’t live up to my memories? I shouldn’t have worried. How to Marry a Marquis was as good at re-reading as I remembered. The story centers around tw [...]

    24. I must say that I give this book a 4.5 This book was wonderful but I have such high standerds and this just barely missed the mark. The only reason I even picked up this book was because I read To catch an heiress and that was my very first Julia Quinn novel, and I LOVED the story. The characters were humorous and I only read this book in the begining because I wanted to be able to read about Blake and Caroline again.Yes, they made an appearence in this book and they brought their comical twists [...]

    25. LADY DANBURY. I LOVE YOU SO.My review of How to Marry a Marquis could easily be an ode to Lady Danbury, who is one of my favorite side characters EVER. <--- No exaggeration. Lady Danbury, though she makes her introduction here, is in many of the Bridgerton and Smythe-Smith books. She is outspoken. She is crafty. She is everything I want to be when I grow up.(Especially the lady in regency England part. Because that can happen!)But what about James and Elizabeth? I suppose I should talk about [...]

    26. Oh dear. Have you ever read a book that had you totally captivated at page one, and then somewhere along the way it just disintegrated and fell apart spectacularly into something unrecognizable? That is me and this book. It started so clever. The heroine is raising her 3 siblings (they are orphaned) and she works for an older lady but is going to have to marry as she needs money desperately. They are literally penniless. Then one day she comes across a book "how to marry a marquis" and hilarity [...]

    27. Another fun book by Julia Quinn! You can pretty much bet that by picking up a book by her that you are going to be reading a gem!I love James, the hero, whom we met in To Catch an Heiress. I adored him in that book and enjoyed him just as much in this book! And the heroine, Elizabeth is very admirable!ATTENTION all Lady Danbury fans!! Lady Danbury plays a significant role in this book, she appears throughout with her cutting and witty remarks! This book is not to be missed! :)

    28. I should also order the first one, seeing as the protagonists make an appearance here again. I like Quinn's stories. They are light, but not too much so. They are a little angsty, but not annoyingly so. (This one imo even less than the Bridgertons) It's the perfect mixture and they make for a good read. There were some things I didn't like too much, which is why I can't give the novel five stars.Still, I have never thought I'd like historicals and Julia Quinn managed to make me love her books: T [...]

    29. The banter and playful nature of these characters breathed life into them. From the cranky Malcolm the cat to the epic romance of the hero, James, this story is so full of awesome.Serious kudos for excellent writing. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love. The trinity of what good romance is supposed to be. *applause*
