    1. Sheriff Culpepper (accompanied, as ever, by his fearsome mastiff, Bear) brings in two outlaws. He speaks up for one of them, Wiley, who is sentenced to twenty-five years in the penitentiary. Then Wiley is rescued on the journey there. Or was an attempt made to abscond him? And by whom? Are the Anvil Mining Company (which Wiley had robbed) somehow behind it? And how is their head, Pennrose, involved? There then follows a train robbery, and we follow Culpepper as he ruthlessly and methodically tra [...]

    2. A novel that introduces Jonas Culpepper and his big dog called Bear, as they keep law and order in San Juan. Some likeable characters, the author isn't afraid to put them in harms way (and just as importantly, he doesn't give them an easy way out of some of the problems).A bit more gritty than JT Edson/Louis Lamour, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The ending was a bit of an anti-climax after the events building up to it.

    3. Love This Western!I for one have never read a book about a sheriff with a 200-pound dog, specifically a mastiff, as a sidekick. I was trying to picture the look on the faces of the lawbreakers as Sheriff Jonas Culpepper strides up to them with such a huge dog! This is the second book I’ve read by this author. I enjoy this author’s writing style and unique plot ideas. This story has a train robbery, a damsel in distress, and a hero. All the elements of a good read!

    4. Bear and BloodA story of strong will and determined to complete a job no matter the belief of anyone else. A job completed was the only answer

    5. County Sheriff Culpepper doesn't like have a burr in his saddle. Crooks on both sides of the law find out that Culpepper quickly removes burrs. Cost to the tax payers, just a few cents for the bullets. A gang of thieving outlaws decide it would be a good idea to rob a train in Culpepper's town. Then a Deputy US Marshall gets involved. Justice is served, but at great personal loss to the sheriff.

    6. Unstoppable LawmanNever get cross ways with Sheriff Jonas Culpepper. He will hunt you to the ends of the earth and back. Great storyline full of surprises.
